I just noticed that, at this particular moment in time, the top four posts on Tech Memeorandum are New York Times articles, and of the top ten, six are from the Times. Sometimes I think that if it weren’t for the shadow of the cathedral, there’d be no place to set up the bazaar.
I love the metaphor.
It is so much easier to link to an existing article at a mainstream media site than to write original content that this fact that you have noticed is not surprising. In a sense, the site you mentioned is free-riding on the New York Times brand. A lot of folks will see the NYT reference and be more inclined to read due to the inferred credibility of NYT reporting.
The comment about free-riding nails it. This conversation has a lot do with the current “Bloggers = Writers” meme currently going around.
Meet the new boss. Looks a lot like the old boss.
